Raikoken Karate Dojo

Welcome to the Raikoken Karate Dojo.
We are a Karate school located in Renton, WA.

Introduction

The Art of Karate
& Charlie Nguyen Sensei

Karate, a martial art derived from Japan & Okinawa, is an art that teaches Kata, Kumite & discipline. It mainly consists of striking, kicking, grabbing and takedown techniques. There are many different styles and forms of Karate today. Some schools have maintained traditional styles while others have modern blends.

Charlie Nguyen Sensei, a multi-international champion, studied and refined various original styles of Kata with high level instructors and passes them down the same way he learned from his teachers. He received an incredible boost of knowledge from training with the Vietnam National Team for months, which ultimately led to a successful teacher, as well as a successful Dojo. He continues to pass on his skill to students as they now succeed at international level competitions.

Our dojo pillars

Kata

Our school teaches traditional Karate Kata, a core lesson of understanding Karate movement. Kata, or forms, taught in our school have been passed down from teacher to student since their creation. We use kata motion to better understand our kinesthetic ability, while learning how to use the techniques they contain.

Kumite

Kumite is how we refer to sparring in Karate. Using the WKF guidelines, we improve students’ athleticism and technique in this light contact art. In our teaching, use of control is heavily emphasized while exercising tremendous speed and implementing correct strategy.

Community

Our school has created incredible bonds between families, kids and adults alike. We strive to boost morale in our team in various ways. We encourage students to always act upon good morals, ethics and with honor. We vow to create a safe environment for everyone.

Have Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

What payment contracts do you have?

We do not believe in locking students/parents into payment contracts.

How young can a student start?

Comprehension and listening skills help greatly when young students start. Some students have started as little as 4 years old in our Beginners 1 class.

Is there an age limit?

After seeing a 90 year old perform Kata with his team, you too will see there is no age limit to start. As many of the adult students have said, “its never too late to start!”

I have this physical condition. Is this for me?

There is always a way Karate can show you how to improve your physical strength and understanding the movement of your body.

How often do we pay?

We have a very simple process. Membership tuition payments are due at the beginning of the month. If you’re enjoying the Dojo, you can inquire about quarterly payments.

How hard do you hit in sparring?

Imagine going as fast as you can, but stopping on the surface of your skin. That is how we spar 99% of the time. Its all about teaching control to all ages. Control should be exercised, tested and applied with the appropriate amount of force (for example, sparring & learning vs. self-defense vs. breaking boards, etc.)
